It has been six months since travelers from all around Tridia have had their teleportation through the mystical Gates of the realm interrupted, dumping them in the little known and small refuge of the Stormgard. This masterfully built stone keep is molded into the canyon walls within a Four-Hundred foot deep box canyon.
During this time, these visitors have found the keep is currently home to a hundred other people, followers from a long-ended group of adventurers. At that group’s head they met Vance Grackle, a human man in his 50’s and his family, elven wife Lorelei and brother Vraash.
As new people arrive to Stormgard, they are given two options: Stay or go. Those who choose to go would be given a travel pack and venture out into the wilderness on their own. It is well understood that leaving the canyon on foot is a death sentence for most, and there is no road or path back to Stormgard for those that might have the know-how to traverse the deadly Tempest. Those who stay are offered room and board in the Hatchery – a neighborhood comprised of many single room shacks built for utility more than comfort – and given a few simple rules: Don’t take what’s not yours, and don’t cause a problem. ‘Causing a problem” may result in being exiled, or simply “stabbed and thrown in the hole”- referring to a mysterious, deep pit at the southern end of the canyon locals call The Swallow.
The newcomers overwhelmingly choose to stay in Stormgard. Some for good, and some simply until the Gate starts working again. During the course of their months fitting in, many were given duties to clear the Bluff above the canyon, and travel out into the localities further- swamps, forests, plains and cliff sides. These adventurers also gathered food to increase the stores and feed the people of Stormgard, and fine veins of metal to donate and improve the Blacksmiths supplies and skills.
Others took the challenge to try and empower the Gate within Stormgard, which has sat stagnant without the power to transport people magically between its counterparts across Tridia. By gathering metal to form a massive copper lightning rod, and tipping it with the corpse of a beetle that siphons lightning to itself, some newcomers were able to temporarily power the Gate
With this power, the gate shot out many elemental creatures, and the magical wave also called out monstrous serpentine lizards from The Swallow. During this time, several bricks along the Gate shattered, sending 6 glowing magical orbs into the localities surrounding Stormgard.
Several newcomers have formed a Mages Council to gather information and plan what to do next with the Gate.
To that end, the adventurers within Stormgard’s next goal is to collect the Six Orbs that have scattered the lands, to repair the Gate and finally get it running.
No sooner had the people of Stormgard repelled this assault on their home, when curious fiery peppers released spores and infected a grove of trees within the canyon. Though the grove was damaged, Stormgard’s food supplies still hold just enough to feed the inhabitants.
Stormgard’s food stores are still in surplus, and has no risk of starvation .
Stormgard’s smith has collected 45 donated copper ingots, of the 100 needed to reach improvement. Until improved, Rank 1 gear requires twice the supplies to build, and Rank 2 gear is beyond the smiths’ ability.
