Hearthstone Gully

A luscious mountain community famous for its people’s craftiness and hospitality. The people of this town are masters of terrace farming, blanketing the steep hills of their valley in crops and family farms. The looming mountains take the brunt of the Tempest’s damage, but people still have to take cover in their storm shelters when it rolls through. The town is in a constant state of repair and evolution, as crafters improve their methods for weathering the Tempest each time it passes through. The buildings that are reliably safe have been built back up again, new and improved, over the course of many generations.

Hearthstone Gully is known for being a hospitable, welcoming place, even to those who have been shunned from other societies. Outsiders or those with no place else to go can always find a bed and a hot meal at the local temple of Terra Heart, and anyone looking to make some honest money can usually find it as a farm hand. Those seeking a more thrilling livelihood journey with the local Flintians to the Cloud-capped Isles for regular hunts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The people of Hearthstone Gulley are built on community, invitation, and trust. They live by the motto, “Trust is freely given, distrust must be earned”.
The Gully is located between several shorter mountains in the Titanspine mountain range’s northern section. It has built many platforms and supports between them, mixture of mind out cliffsides and wooden beams, all with varying strengths against the surges of ice and air Tempest storms.
The center of town is kept for farming on the large flat space, so important buildings are built in a ring on the edges of the farm surfaces. The council building is built into the side of the Northernmost mountain, with a trail leading up to its peak set out behind it that leads to the Cloud Capped Isles.
Heading south, the road from the Gully splits, one direction heading to the Gate, the other heading into the Baleful Peaks.
The leadership of Hearthstone Gully is made up of council of 5 people, who each supervise different parts of the town’s continued survival; Construction (for new buildings, and repair of old ones), Repurposing (turning broken things into usable tools and gear), Food (farming and hunting), Mercantile (trade with other places in this region and Cloud capped Isles), Spiritual (a rotating leadership position between the heads of Terraheart and Flint church in town.) Each of these councilmen lead the town together by vote amongst each other.
The town is protected by volunteers as well as the Axes of Flint, a militia-like group of fighters from the church of Flint.
Current town leaders:
The councilmen are referred to as “councilman of _____”.
  • Construction-  Bander Grave, a middle aged dwarven man with green gemstones, on the slimmer side but hosts a wealth of construction knowledge. His focus on short, tact facts has made him a staple of the council for decades.
  • Repurposing- Beatrice Mindle, an elderly half elven woman. She has always held the mantra of “everything belongs somewhere” and extends this to people, believing everyone has a purpose in the Gully if they want it. Though her focus is on repurposing things, she has thrived in community efforts.
  • Food- Gursh Turmerak, a young Half troll man who has travelled the regions extensively before the Gates stopped working. In his travels he learned every form of cooking he felt he could remember, and now challenges himself by using uncommon ingredients to feed the mouths of the Gully.
  • Mercantile- Victor Vine, an insiduous sylph bedecked in holly leaves, has spent his tenure improving connections between the people of the Tree and the Death Watch. His ultimate focus has been getting more poplace, to ensure the Gully thrives, and is known to purchase “slave” people from other regions to free them here.
  • Spiritual- The role hops back and forth between Morrigan Lestrow and Damian Lestrow, a married couple of middle aged humans. Morrigan pushes for improving the homes of the Gully during her tenure as the head of the Terraheart church, and Damian pushes the need for better supplies and gear for his hunters and Axes of Flint.
Even if they don’t have any skills for it, or even any particular interest, everyone in the Gully belongs to one of these 5 groups and function as constituents for their councilmen.
Laws:
The people of Hearthstone Gulley follow the basic principles of treating each other as equals or better, a golden rule of courtesy and respect. Those that disregard this courtesy, are brought before the council and their plights are heard and ruled on by the council.
Should someone be found guilty of treating their neighbors poorly, they may be required to perform service for them, perform service for the community, repay some form of debt, or be exiled from the town.
