Treyark

As the town closest to the Rift’s gate, Treyark hosts many visitors to the area, as well as a busy marketplace on its main crossroads. Farmers and craftsmen from all around the Rift go to Treyark to sell their wares. Mercenaries can typically find work posted from residents escorting shipments across the Rift to communities on the other side of the ring. Despite a population of only a few hundred permanent residents, Treyark is the largest town in the Rift, and its leaders act as the governing body for the area. There is no formal system of city guards or walls, as its citizens are spread out across the surrounding farmland.

Restrictions: None. While the Rift is populated mostly by Lacuna, they are a hospitable people and welcome outsiders. Treyark especially is known for its more diverse population.

Distinguishing visuals: The Lacuna of Treyark, happy to have found a place to call home, started a tradition of wearing simple ringed jewelry – rings, bangles, circlets, etc. It is meant to symbolize the circle of communities around the Rift.

Treyark is mostly made up of lots of small family farms with varied crops. The four main crops are wheat, corn, soy, and rice. Each of these staples is represented by a larger farm, and a member of the town counsel. There’s also a merchant counsel member who presides over the market.

The mysterious energies around the Rift make crops grow very large, 3-4 times larger than normal. There may also be some strange hybrids, unusual colors, and other (usually) harmless mutations to the plants.

Livestock farming is less common, since the fog doesn’t have its boosting effect on animals, but there is some. Watchdogs and similar protective animals are common to fend off smaller Fog creatures and warn about stronger ones.

The spread-out farms connect through winding roads to the town center. The counsel and marketplace are here, along with the occasional gatherings of people from all the way around The Ring. Every harvest season is celebrated with a festival, and the farmer who brings the strangest crop wins a prestigious prize.

The town square is also home to the Wandering Wyrm saloon, the headquarters for the Rift Wardens. Citizens of Treyark know they can go there to request aid or direct travelers there for help navigating The Crater.

The Vocitan have a keep somewhere within the area of Treyark. Its location is not openly known.
