An organized group of mercenary types who roam the Rift. Some join to protect others and patrol the outskirts of farmlands, fending off any danger before it becomes a problem. Some others join to seek knowledge and uncover the mysteries of the Rift. Some join up just for the thrill of fighting weird monsters and getting paid to kill things. Regardless of their reasoning, they have a good reputation with the locals for the work they do.
It is not uncommon for wardens to work alone, but many work in pairs or small groups. The Rift Wardens form a loose network around the Rift, and are largely left to manage their work and take jobs as they see fit. Wardens are often out in the wild, but one can always find a few at their headquarters, a saloon in Treyark called the ‘Wandering Wyrm.’
Restrictions: No purely magic classes. Non-lacuna are allowed, but would have had a harder time proving themselves capable due to being more susceptible to the effects of the Rift’s fog.
Distinguishing visuals: The Rift Wardens have a rugged appearance, as most spend their days out in the wild. This rugged appearance often has a deep purple color to their cloaks and overcoats. Every warden receives a bronze badge engraved with their name upon joining. Seasoned wardens will sometimes embellish their badges further by engraving other symbols or meaningful words on it.

Customs:
People who want to join the Rift Wardens typically do so through the Wandering Wyrm. If they pass the initial basic combat trials, they will partner with a seasoned Warden for a while. This shadowing is typically a few weeks, jumping into a “trial by fire.” In time, the prospecting member must complete a solo mission including at least 24 hours spent in moderate fog. Survivors are awarded official status as Rift Wardens.
Rift Wardens who die in combat (and are found) are typically cremated, a bit of ashes placed either in a small urn at the Wandering Wyrm or a pendant worn by a living Warden. Prospecting members must craft their own urn/pendant as part of their training, to reinforce the gravity of their position.
Notable Members:
Griz – (half-elf) lacuna – middle-aged. Though the Rift Wardens have no official leader, he is the one many members look up to. He prioritizes protecting people and mentors many newcomers. His worn badge is embellished only with a set of initials; he rarely talks about them.
Serotina – Sylph (coniferous) (void-touched) – young adult. If a visitor wants an escort through Parzela’s Pass, she’s your woman. She’s more interested in the exploration and curiosity aspect of the Rift Wardens.
