The Rimelands

Somewhere beyond a treacherous range of icy mountains lies a snow-covered kingdom known as the Rimelands. For reasons still unknown, the Tempest never crosses the mountain range circling the Rimelands, known as the Jagged Crown. Though safe from the Tempest, life here is not without hardship. Sunlight is rare, summer is short, and winter here is the harshest in Tridia. At the center of this frigid land is a single town, Fjolla, where the vast majority of the population lives. To the south is a sprawling pine forest, where many cold-loving creatures thrive. The land to the north is bare, icy tundra, dotted with perpetually frozen lakes.

The glistening towers of her castle are visible for miles beyond the town walls.

Local Legend: Queen Enora has ruled the Rimelands for as long as anyone can remember. She spends her time locked away in her Crystal Citadel, rarely seen by the public. She has no family, no known origin, and has lived well beyond a natural lifespan. There are many rumors and theories as to why, but no one knows for certain. Not even her loyal knights know any more of her secrets. It is known she is capable of performing powerful magic, and many think she has something to do with why the Tempest never enters her territory. The queen is shrouded in mysteries and she is more feared than loved by her people.

Typical Threats: The Rimelands may seem desolate, but there is a variety of wildlife that thrives in the cold. Hunters must be wary of bears and packs of wolves roaming the forests. The northern tundra is populated by a variety of water and ice elementals, and while some are intelligent and even perhaps friendly, many are hostile to those that are not their kind.

Typical Tempest Surges: Outside the Rimelands, the Tempest is known to surge with Ice almost constantly, quelling rarely.

Closest other regions: The Rift to the south east, and Blackwater Delta to the south west.
